Grandmother Calendula
Why it's so commonly used and why we infuse it into all our skincare products.
Calendula is an annual flower native to the northern Mediterranean countries. Its name refers to its tendency to bloom with the calendar, usually once a month or with every new moon. Because of its relationship to the moon, Calendula is often referred to as she and has been considered the grandmother of herbs due to her endless list of benefits.
It has healing anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties; commonly used to treat acne, dermatitis, diaper rashes, or any skin rash/irritation, dry skin, eczema, psoriasis, insect bites, and minor cuts and scrapes. Calendula can also be made into a poultice or tea and put directly on open wounds to speed up the healing process and to disinfect.
Calendula is rich in antioxidants like carotenoids, vitamin A precursors, that help to swipe away free radicals which can cause premature aging. It’s also very rich in vitamin E, another antioxidant with amazing skin softening abilities. Erasing fine lines and blemishes.
It is also an all-natural skin brightener effective at reducing the appearance of scars. As well as it stimulates the production of collagen which is important in proper skin regeneration so for those with dull skin who want to regain their youthful, glowing skin, calendula-infused toners and moisturizers can surely do the trick.
